# The Supreme Court asked the government to respond a plea by a hotelier to strike down the colonial Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code which criminalises homosexuality

- In India, the sexual offender database will be maintained by National Crime Records Bureau
- Across the world, only 8 countries viz, USA, Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago and the United Kingdom have the sexual offender database
- Only in US, the registry of convicted sex offenders is public, while in other seven countries it is maintained purely for the consumption of the law enforcement authorities
- However, it has not been clarified whether Indian database will be made public or not
