Ø 6th National Voters Day (NVD) observed today (Jan 25); Theme: ‘Inclusive and Qualitative Participation’;  Chief Election Commissioner Dr. Nasim Zaidi released the book titled, ‘Belief in the Ballot’ [25th January is the foundation day of the Commission, which came into being on this day in 1950]
Ø Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi and France President, Mr. Francois Hollande laid the foundation stone of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Headquarters and inaugurated the interim Secretariat of the ISA in National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), Gwalpahari, Gurgaon; [121 countries are members of ISA]
Ø Ministry of HRD to launch books (in English and Hindi) for children under Veergatha Series; Veergatha series seeks to introduce the great acts of bravery of the Param Veer Chakra awardees to instil a sense of inspiration and patriotism in children at an early age
Ø Ministry of HRD in association with the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Home affairs is organizing the "Seema Darshan" programme; an initiative to provide an opportunity for the children to experience the border environment and to encourage patriotism and nationalism among the students
Ø Government organised "Bharat Parv" event from Jan 26-29, 2016 in New Delhi; objective of this is to generate a patriotic mood, promote the rich cultural diversity of the country and to ensure the wider participation of the general public
Ø Union Cabinet recommended the imposition of President's Rule in the Congress - ruled Arunachal Pradesh after it felt that the State was heading for a constitutional breakdown [Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Mr. Nabam Tuki, said, that the recommendation for President's rule by the Union Cabinet in a sensitive border state was unprecedented and unacceptable]; President, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee implemented the Centre on imposing the President's Rule in Arunachal Pradesh; SC asked the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh and Centre Government on why Centre implemented the President’s Rule?

Lala Lajpat Rai – 150th birth anniversary

Lala Lajpat Rai-150th Birth Anniversary completed in 2015 (he was born on 28/01/1865). 



Birth and death       
Birth:  28th January 1865 at a small village of Dhudike in district Ferozepur, Punjab.
Death: Simon Commission protest in Lahore on 30th October 1928, he was injured in Lathi charge and succumbed to severe injuries on 17th November 1928.

MoS for Culture and Tourism, Dr Mahesh Sharma released a Commemorative Coin of Rs 150 and a Circulation Coin of Rs 10 on Late Lala Lajpat Rai (on Jan 28, 2016). The Commemorative Coin of Rs 150 is made of Quaternary alloy with diameter of 44 mm and weight of 35 grams and the Circulation coin of Rs 10 is made of bi-metallic material with diameter of 27 mm and weight of 7.71 grams. Ministry of Culture has been celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Lala Lajpat Rai from 28th January 2015 to 28th January 2016.


The Ministry of Culture organized a function and an exhibition in Lala Lajpat Rai’s memory in Nehru Memorial Museum & Library (NMML), New Delhi on 13th January, 2016. State Government of Punjab has been sanctioned an amount of Rs 5.00 crore for construction of an Auditorium and Rs 3 cr for installation of Astroturf Flooring in Hockey Stadium at Lalaji’s Birth Place.

[CA - Notes] Solar Power in India

Solar Power in India
On the auspicious occasion of Sankranti/Pongal (Jan 14, 2016), the installed capacity of solar power in India crossed the milestone of 5,000 MW.  The cumulative installed capacity has reached to 5,130 MW with installed capacity of 1385 MW in current FY.  The state of Rajasthan stands 1st in the country with 1264 MW, followed by Gujarat (1024MW), Madhya Pradesh (679 MW), Tamil Nadu (419 MW), Maharashtra (379 MW) and Andhra Pradesh (357 MW).

The Government has set the ambitious target of generating 100 GW of solar power by the year 2021-22 under the National Solar Mission. It is envisaged to generate 60 GW ground mounted grid-connected solar power and 40 GW through roof-top grid interactive solar power to fulfill the 100 GW of solar power. The Ministry has also fixed year-wise targets to monitor the solar power generation in the country. The target for the current year is 2,000 MW and next year target is 12,000 MW.  The Ministry is putting all efforts through various schemes of Central Government and State Governments to achieve the targets.  It has been planned that around 18,000 MW tender should be out by 31st March, 2016.
