Aim
Aims to transfer the country into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy

·        The initiative includes plan to connect rural areas with high-speed internet networks.
·        Digital India has three core components.
Ø  Creation of digital infrastructure
Ø  Delivering services digitally and
Ø  Digital literacy
·        The project is slated for completion by 2018/2019 [India year Book says 2018; websites says as 2019]
·        A two-way platform will be created where both the service providers and the consumers stand to benefit
·        The scheme will be monitored and controlled by the Digital India Advisory group which will be chaired by the Ministry of Communications and IT.
  

  
Vision Areas of Digital India:





Infrastructure as Utility to Every Citizen
High Speed Internet as a core utility shall be made available in all Gram Panchayats
Cradle to give digital identity-unique, lifelong, online and authenticable
Mobile phone and bank account would enable participation in digital and financial space at individual level
Easy access to a Common Service Centre within their locality
Safe and secure Cyber-space in the Country





Governance and Service as Demand
Government services available in real-time from online and mobile platforms. All citizen entitlements to be available on the cloud, to ensure easy access.
Government services digitally transformed for improving Ease of Doing Business
Making financial transactions above a threshold, electronic and cashless
Leveraging Global Information System (GIS) for decision support systems and development




Digital Empowerment of Citizens
Universal digital literacy
All digital resources universally accessible
All Government documents/certificates to be available on the cloud
Availability of digital resources/services in Indian languages
Collaborative digital platforms for participative governance
Portability of all entitlements for individuals through the Cloud

Scope of Digital India:
            The overall scope of the programme is
v To prepare India for a knowledge future
v On being transformative, that is to realize IT = IT + IT (India Tomorrow = Indian Talent + Information Technology)
v Making technology central to enabling change
v On being an Umbrella programme (covering many departments)

Microsoft agreed to set up Digital Village in Maharashtra
Software major Microsoft agreed to develop Smart MIDC (industrial colony) and support Digital Village in Maharashtra. The information was given by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis after his meet with India-born Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in Miscrosoft’s office in Seattle.

Ø  3As (Accessible, Additive and Affordable) are important for 'Digital India' – Modi
Ø  Kruti Tiwari (topper in IIT-JEE) is appointed as the ambassador for 'Digital India'
