TN farm system gets award
Ø  AGRISNET (Agricultural Information Services Network) - Farm Crop Management System
Ø  provides opportunities for farm-specific interventions for reasons such as raising crops and addressing yield gap
Ø  At the national conference on e-governance in Gujarat, Tamil Nadu was given the gold award under the category of “incremental innovation.”

IAS officer as a religion preacher
Ø  Tamil Nadu government has directed one of its IAS officer (C. Umashankar) not to go ahead with his "preaching and propagating" activities and warned that if he failed to do so action would taken against him.
Ø  C Umashankar, a crusader against corruption and an early advocate of the use of free software in e-governance, was born a Hindu dalit but said he changed his faith to Christianity during the stressful times he faced during his battles against politicians.
Ø  His open and public preaching of Christianity has raised the hackles of right-wing groups who are campaigning against him.

TN in 2015 National games
Ø  Tamil Nadu secured 8th position in the 2015 National Games. Tamil Nadu won a total of 52 medals (includes 16 Gold Medals).
 Srirangam by-poll
Ø  As expected AIADMK’s Valarmathi won the Srirangam by-poll
Ø  The by-election was held as Ms. Jayalalithaa had to vacate her seat after being convicted in the disproportionate assets case
Ø  The BJP and the CPI (M) candidates and 22 Independents forfeited their deposits.
Ø  The margin was one of the biggest in the State’s recent by-election history
 TN Budget 2015-16
Ø  Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) in real terms
2012-13: 3.39%
      2013-14: 7.29% (higher than the national average growth rate of 4.74%)
      2014-15: 7.25%
      2015-16: expected to grow over 9%
 ‘Killer’ Minister Agri Krishnamoorthy dropped
Ø  Faced with mounting political pressure, Chief Minister Mr. O. Panneerselvam sacked Agriculture Minister `Agri' S S Krishnamoorthy from the cabinet.
Ø  The move comes in the wake of demands by some political parties that action be taken against the minister following the suicide of an agriculture department engineer, who was apparently under pressure from the minister's office with regard to appointments in the department.
Ø  Later, Krishnamorrthy was arrested by CB-CID officials.
 8 Districts for Mission Indradhanush
Ø  Eight districts from Tamil Nadu have been selected for ‘Mission Indradhanush – 201’, the Central Government’s immunization programme
Ø  The districts are Coimbatore, Kancheepuram, Madurai, Thiruvallur, Tiruchirapalli, Tirunelveli, Vellore and Virudhunagar.
Ø  This mission will cover all un-vaccinated or partially vaccinated children in India against seven vaccine preventable diseases. The diseases are:
(1) Tuberculosis
(2) Diphtheria
(3) Pertussis (Whooping Cough)
(4) Tetanus
(5) Poliomyelitis
(6) Meases
(7) Hepatits B

TN Assembly adopts resolution urges Centre to stop Mekedatu Dam in Karnataka
Ø  The Tamil Nadu Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution urging the Centre to take urgent steps to check the Karnataka government from building a new dam at Mekedatu and advise it not to take up any other projects across the Cauvery without the consent of the Tamil Nadu government and until the formation of the Cauvery Management Board (CMB).
Ø  In a rare display of political unity, parliamentarians from Tamil Nadu, cutting across party lines, including arch-rivals DMK and AIADMK, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Mekedatu dam row.
Ø  An all-party delegation of 55 Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, led by Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M. Thambidurai, explained to the Prime Minister the long struggle in securing the rights of the State on the Cauvery river dispute and handed over a copy of the resolution unanimously passed by the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
Ø  They urged Mr. Modi to immediately set up the Cauvery Management Board and Cauvery Water Regulatory Authority and take necessary steps to stop Karnataka from constructing dams at Mekedatu.
