Gallantry Awards
Ø  374 Gallantry and other Defence decorations to Armed Forces personnel and others on the eve of the 66th Republic Day Celebrations
Ø  Includes two Ashoka Chakra, 03 Kirti Chakra, 12 Shaurya Chakra and others
Ø  The nation’s highest peacetime gallantry award Ashoka Chakra has been awarded posthumously to Mukund Vardharajan and Naik Neeraj Kumar Singh

Republic Day Parade Awards
Ø  Among the Services category, Brigade of Guards Regiment and Sikh
Regiment were jointly adjudged the best marching contingents in the Republic Day Parade – 2015.
Ø  In the category of Para-Military Forces and other auxiliary marching contingents, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) contingent has been adjudged the best contingent.
Ø  First Prize: Maharashtra Tableau, which depicted “Wari to Pandharpur” (the pilgrimage to Pandharpur). While Jharkhand tableau on “Maluti Temples” was adjudged the second best, third position has gone in favour of Karnataka Tableau based on famous Channapatna Toys.
Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards (PBSA)
Ø  Highest honour conferred on overseas Indians
Ø  PBSA is conferred by the President of India as a part of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD)
Ø  Vice-President of India gave away the awards 15+1* (* -> last year award winner)
Kushwant Singh Memorial Prize
Ø  Poet Arundhathi Subramaniam won the inaugural Khushwant Singh Memorial Prize for Poetry at Jaipur Literature Festival
Ø  She was awarded for her work When God is a Traveller.
 Miss Universe 2014
Ø  Paulina Vega of Colombia won the Miss Universe 2014 title
Ø  Miss India Noyonita Lodh, could not even make it to top 10 at the 63rd edition of the pageant

Ø  Ashok Srinivasan won The Hindu Prize 2014
Ø  For his debut collection of 13 short stories, Book of Common Signs
Ø  For 2012 it was Jerry Pinto for 'Em and the Big Hoom' and for 2013 it was Anees Salim for 'Vnity Bagh'
 Padma Awards 2015
Ø  9 Padma Vibhushan, 20 Padma Bhushan and 75 Padma Shri Awardees.
Ø  17 of the awardees are women

 The Hindu website wins award
Ø  The Hindu’s website (www.thehindu.com) has won the Website of the Year (WOTY) India award for 2014 in the News and Information category.
Ø  The selection of the Website of the Year India is done in an online public process that seeks to identify the best and most popular websites in 21 categories.
Ø  It is organised by MetrixLab, a global provider of consumer insights and marketing analytics.
Ø  The Hindu was the first newspaper in India to launch a website, in June 1995
 Nayudamma Award
Ø  Women scientists Dr. Tessy Thomas and Geeta Varadan were jointly named for Dr. Y Nayudamma Memorial Award 2014.
Ø  They have been chosen for the award for their outstanding performance in the field of science and technology.
Ø  This is the first time in the history of the trust that two eminent women scientists are being concurrently honoured. 
 Charleston-EFG John Maynard Keynes Prize 2015
Ø  Economist and Nobel laureate Amartya Sen won the newly established Charleston-EFG John Maynard Keynes Prize 2015.
Ø  With this, Professor Sen will receive 7500 British pounds to commission a work of art and will give the annual Charleston-EFG Keynes Lecture at the Charleston Festival in the United Kingdom.
Ø  This year’s lecture is scheduled for 23 May 2015 and it will be on The Economic Consequences of Austerity.
Ø   Amartya Sen was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 1998 for his work in welfare economics

Gandhi Peace Prize 2014
Ø  ISRO
Ø  The Indian space agency successfully launched Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) and at a very cost effective price of 450 crore rupees.
Ø  The launch makes India the first Asian country to enter the Martian sphere of influence.
Ø  ISRO became the fourth space agency after National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of the US, Russian Federal Space Agency (RFSA) and European Space Agency to have undertaken a mission to Mars
 Stree Shakti Puraskar Awards 2014
Ø  Stree Shakti Puraskar (Women Power Award) is a series of India's national honours conferred on individual women for their exceptional achievement.
Ø  The award is given in six categories, by Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, recognises the spirit of courage of a women in difficult circumstances, who has established this spirit of courage in her personal or professional life
Ø  The Nari Shakti Puraskars have been conferred for the first time this year. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 100,000 and a citation. They have been instituted by the Ministry of Women and Child Development to honour 8 women to recognize their individual contribution in specific areas.
 Bharat Ratna Award
Ø  Atal Bihari Vajpayee: seventh PM to receive Bharat Ratna
Ø  Madan Mohan Malviya (posthumous)
 Abel Prize 2015
Ø  Nobel Laureate John F Nash Jr. won the Abel Prize 2015 for his work on partial differential equations.
Ø  He will share the Prize with Louis Nirenberg, Professor Emeritus at New York University's Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. They both will share the prize money of 760000 US dollar.
Ø  Nash and Nirenberg won the prize for striking and seminal contributions to the theory of nonlinear partial differential equations and its applications to geometric analysis. Partial differential equations are important in both pure math and describing natural phenomena
 Folio Prize 2015
Ø  Indian-American author Akhil Sharma won The Folio Prize 2015 for his novel Family Life.
Ø  He was presented with the winner trophy by Jean-Marc Rathe of The Folio Society and a cheque of 40000 pound at the awards ceremony held in London.
 Tyler Prize 2015
Ø  For environmental achievement
Ø  Indian ecologist Madhav Gadgil and US Scientist Dr. Jane Lubchenco were named for the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement 2015.
Ø  They were named for the award for their leadership and engagement in the development of conservation and sustainability policies in the United States, India and internationally.
 Dadasaheb Phalke Award
Ø  Sashi Kapoor
Ø  Made him the third member of Kapoor family to receive the award after Prithviraj Kapoor and Raj Kapoor
Ø  Dadasahbe Phalke Award: highest award in Indian cinema
 Water Prize
Ø  Rajendra Singh
Ø  Rajendra Singh, environmental activist based in Rajasthan, has been conferred the prestigious Stockholm Water Prize this year for his innovative water restoration efforts and courage to empower communities in Indian villages. Mr. Singh, popularly known as “Water Man”, was named for the global award instituted by the Stockholm International Water Institute in 1991 for his work towards improving water security in rural India and for showing extraordinary courage and determination in his quest to improve the living conditions of those most in need
 National Film Awards
Ø  Best Film: Court (Marathi)
Ø  Best Popular Film: Mary Kom (Hindi)
Ø  Best Film on Social Issues: Chotoder Chobi (Bengali)
Ø  Best Film on Environment: Ottaal (Malayalam)
Ø  Best Children’s Film: Kaakaa Muttai (Tamil) and Elizabeth Ekdasai (Marathi)
