Uttar Pradesh has maximum wetlands listed in Ramsar Convention (8 sites)

Ramsar Convention:
·        Also called - Waterfowl convention; Ramsar - City in Iran
·        Only global environmental treaty that handles with a particular ecosystem.
·        Intergovernmental treaty - national plan + International plan/cooperation +Conservation.
·        Not associated with UN; Feb 2 - World wetlands day
·        Three Pillars - Wise use concept + Ramsar list preparation + International cooperation
·        While joining Ramsar convention, a state should designate atleast one site as Ramsar site.
·        Ramsar site - nothing but a list of important wetlands all over the world; gives international recognition to wetlands.
