[CA] India's MMR reduced

The latest Sample Registration System (SRS) data indicates that the MMR (Maternal Mortality Rate) in the country has been reduced from 167 to 130

·        MMR: Number of maternal deaths per 1, 00, 000 live births

·        India has bettered the MDG target of 139 for 2014 – 16

·        States which are below of India’s national average (130) in MMR are the states that are in EAG but Uttar Pradesh has dropped the MMR from 285 to 201 and there is a lot to go for the States in EAG

·        SRS segments States into three groups

EAG (Empowered Action Group)	Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Assam
Southern States	Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana
Others	Remaining States and UTs
