Mr.
T. S. Tirumurti an Indian Foreign Service officer of 1985 currently serving as
the Secretary, Economic Relations in the Ministry of External Affairs was
appointed as the permanent representative of India to the United Nations (UN)
at New York, succeeding Mr. Syed Akbaruddin following his retirement.
Mr.
Syed Akbaruddin is an Indian diplomat who played a crucial role in pushing for
designation of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar as a global
terrorist by the UN. Mr. Akbaruddin has been serving as the permanent
representative of India to the UN since 2016 January.
