Ministry of Environment set up the National Centre for Sustainable
Coastal Management (NCSCM), Chennai to undertake studies and research in the
area of Coastal Zone Management including coastal resources and environment.
The six (06) research divisions of the NCSCM are:
1)
Geospatial Sciences
2)
Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
3)
Integrated Social Sciences & Economics
4)
Coastal environmental impact assessment
5)
Conservation of Coastal & Marine Resources, Knowledge,
Governance and Policy, and
6)
Futuristic Research and Integrated Island Management Unit.
