·       Started in 1996
·       From 1996 - 2001 it was called as "Gold Flake Open"
·       From 2002 - 2004 it was called as "Tata Open"
·       From 2005 it is being called as "Chennai Open"
·       It is currently part of the ATP World Tour 250 series of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Tour

·       Stan Wawrinka is the most successful player at the event, winning 4 titles (2011, 2014, 2015, and 2016) and reaching a further final (2010).
·       Indian duo of Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes won the doubles titles four times between 1997 and 2002, and again in 2011.
·       No Indians won the Singles titles so far
·       The highest for Indian player in singles is Somdev Devvarman reaching finals in 2009

·       World Player Rafael Nadal played in Chennai Open in 2008 and ended as runner - up (cup was lifted by Russia's Mikhail Youzhny)
