Government of India has approved the development of following five industrial corridor projects to be implemented through National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT):

Wood Despatch	1854	An education department was to be set in every province.
		Universities on the model of the London University be established in big cities such as Bombay, Calcutta and Madras.
		Wood‘s Despatch is called Magna Carta of English Education in India.
Hunter Commission	1882	Lord Ripon appointed the Indian Education Commission on Feb 03, 1882, with Sir William Hunter as its Chairman. It is known as Hunter Commission of 1882.
		Made a thorough enquiry on the present condition of primary and secondary education in India.
		Primary education should be regarded as education of the masses.
		Normal schools should be established for the training of primary school teachers
		Curriculum should include useful subjects like agriculture, elements of natural and physical science and the native method of arithmetic and measurement etc.
Mudaliar Commission	1952	Secondary Education commission
		Commission thoroughly examined the then prevailing secondary education system and gave a number of suggestions for reforms.
		Important ones among these were the diversification of the curriculum, and setting up a large number of multi-purpose schools. The courses of study provided in these schools should aim at fulfilling the different aptitudes of the students.

Indian Education Commission	1964-66	Popularly known as Kothari Commission
		To examine all aspects of the educational sector in India, to evolve a general pattern of education and to advise guidelines and policies for the development of education in India.

		Special emphasis on the training and quality of teachers for schools
		Education for agriculture and research in agriculture and allied sciences should be given a high priority in the scheme of educational reconstruction.

[CA] Chennai - Kanniyakumari Industrial Corridor

Chennai-Kanyakumari Industrial Corridor (CKIC) — a Rs 6,448 cr project proposed by the State Highways — will become a reality in a few years. The 640 km CKIC will link 14 industrial corridors across the 23 districts in State.

The Asian Development Bank said it will provide a $451 million (about Rs 3,200 crore) loan to strengthen power connectivity between the southern and northern parts of the Chennai-Kanyakumari Industrial Corridor (CKIC) in Tamil Nadu.

Six industrial nodes comprising auto industry, textiles, machinery, petro-chemical, metals and minerals and food products were identified along the corridor. Many arterial roads, NH-7, NH-45, SH-49, SH-200 and SH-176 (East Coast Road) run through the corridor linking Chennai port, Kamarajar (Ennore) port and VOC port in Thoothukudi along with other smaller ports such as Katupalli and Karaikal. The corridor is also served by the Chennai-Kanyakumari railway line and three international airports — Chennai, Tiruchy and Madurai.

The project is part of the East Coast Economic Corridor (ECEC) — which runs for 2500 km along the entire east coast from Kolkata to Kanyakumari. It is a multimodal, regional maritime corridor that can play a vital role in unifying the large domestic market while integrating the economy with the global value chains of southeast and east Asia. ECEC resonates with the Centre’s port-led industrialisation drive under Sagarmala initiative and Act East Policy.

ECEC’s development will be conducted in a three-phased manner.

Phase 1 covers the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC);

Phase 2 involves the Chennai-Kanyakumari Industrial Corridor (CKIC), and

Phase 3 the Odisha and West Bengal Industrial Corridor.

v Some of reforms he implemented include enforcement of election code of conduct, Voter IDs for all eligible voters, limit on election candidates' expenditure, appointing election officials from states other than the one facing polls.

v He curbed several malpractices like bribing or intimidating voters, distribution of liquor during elections, use of government funds and machinery for campaigning, appealing to voters' caste or communal feelings, use of places of worship for campaigns, use of loudspeakers and high volume music without prior written permission.

v During the 1993 Indian general elections, due to his reforms, 1488 candidates were disqualified for three years for failing to submit their expenditure accounts. It was reported that he reviewed more than 40,000 expenditure accounts and disqualified 14,000 candidates for false information.

v After retirement as the Chief Election Commissioner, he contested the 1997 Indian presidential election and lost to K.R. Narayanan

This will be the sixth time that Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi will be participating at the BRICS summit. His first BRICS summit was at Fortaleza in Brazil in 2014.

BRICS brings together five major emerging economies comprising 42 percent of the world's population, having 23 percent of the global GDP and around 17 percent of the share and world trade.

 BRICS cooperation has two pillars including consultations on issues of mutual interest through meeting of leaders and ministers as well as cooperation through meeting of senior officials in a number of areas including trade, finance, health, education, science and technology, agriculture, communications IT etc.

[CA] Ex. TIGER TRIUMPH

In consonance with the growing partnership between India and the US, the maiden India US joint Tri services Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Exercise named ‘TIGER TRIUMPH’ is scheduled on the Eastern seaboard from Nov 13 – 21, 2019.

The Harbour Phase is scheduled at Visakhapatnam from Nov 13 – 16, 2019. The Opening Ceremony along with a Joint Flag Parade and Media Interaction will be held onboard INS Jalashwa on Nov 14, 2019.
