mentioned that August 9 marked the 73rd anniversary of the historical call
given by Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi for the British rulers to Quit
India in 1942.

In the Lok Sabha, Speaker Sumitra
Mahajan said, “on this occasion, we pay our homage to the Father of the nation
and to all martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our motherland
and rededicate the high ideals for which they stood.’

Both the houses reaffirmed its
commitment to uphold the sovereignty, integrity, unity and economic well being

PAHAL
Scheme
· Union
Government’s ambitious Pratyaksha Hastaantarit Laabh (PAHAL) scheme was
acknowledged as the world’s largest cash transfer program (households) by the
Guinness Book of World Records
·
The scheme was formally launched as
Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme for LPG subsidy in 2013 in 291 districts under
the aegis of Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
·
The scheme was modified and named as
Pahal in November 2014 and was then again launched in 54 districts.
·
Later it was extended nationwide on 1
January 2015.
Green
Highways Policy, 2015
·
Union Minister of Road Transport &
Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari launched Green Highways (Plantation,
Transplantation, Beautification and Maintenance) Policy, 2015.
·
The policy that seeks to promote green
covers along National Highway corridors was launched at the National Conference
in New Delhi.
·
The Green Highway Policy will make it
compulsory for road developers to set aside 1 percent of the Total Project Cost
(TPC) for Highway Plantation and Maintenance.
·
The policy calls for creation of fund
account called Green Highways Fund (GHF) for developing green covers along the
NH corridors.
Google
to team up with India for free Wi – Fi facility in railway stations
·
Internet search engine giant Google
announced its tie-up with Indian Railways that will provide free Wi-Fi
facilities to 400 stations.
·
The Wi-Fi facilities will be provided
under Project Nilgiri.
·
The plan will initially start with 100
busiest railway stations.
·
Later, the facility will be extended
to the remaining stations.
·
The project will make Internet
hot-spots available to more than 10 million people just with the first 100
stations online.
·
This will make it the largest Wi-Fi
project in the country.
National
Encryption Policy
·
Department of Electronics and
Information Technology (DeitY) released the Draft National Encryption Policy.
·
The purpose of the policy is to
encourage use of encryption technologies and products among governmental
agencies, businesses and citizens for more secure communications and financial
transactions in the cyber space.
·
The draft policy was framed under
Section 84A and Section 69 of Information Technology Act, 2000 that deals with
prescribing modes or methods of encryption and decryption respectively.
NOTA
symbol
·
The Election Commission (EC) has
introduced a specific symbol for ‘None of the Above (NOTA)’ option.
·
This symbol will appear in the last
panel on EVMs and other ballot papers at all elections from now on.
·
It may be recalled that the EC had
introduced NOTA option on EVMs and all other ballot papers with effect from
October11, 2013, pursuant to Supreme Court’s order dated September 27, 2013.
·
The main objective of the option is to
enable electors who do not wish to vote for any of the candidates to exercise
their right not to vote without violation of the secrecy of their decision.
·
The symbol has been designed by
National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.

vacuum toilets in Indian Railways

Indian Railways announced that it has
developed a prototype of Hybrid Vacuum Toilet.
·
It is hybrid because the design is
based on both vacuum toilets and biotoilets.
·
At present, the technology is only
seen aircrafts.
·
It was installed in the
Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani train on trial basis.
