Rules for receiving
gifts for civil service officers
·
Civil
servants can now accept gifts up to Rs. 25,000 from relatives and personal
friends on occasions such as weddings etc, without reporting the same to the
government.
·
Gifts
from other contacts may be received without government sanction as long as
their value does not exceed Rs. 5,000
·
As
per the new rules, “a member of the service may accept gifts from his near
relatives or from his personal friends having no official dealings with them,
on weddings, anniversaries, funerals and religious functions when the making of
gifts is in conformity with the prevailing religious and social practice, but
they have to make a report to the government if the value of such a gift
exceeds Rs. 25,000”.

All
these are in the amended provisions of the All India Service (Conduct) Rules,
1968, relating to gifts.
Air Quality Index
·
Minister
Narendra Modi launched a National Air Quality Index (NAQI) to tackle the menace
of air pollution.
·
This
National Air Quality Index will provide information on the quality of air in 10
major cities in the country on a real-time basis.
·
The
ten cities where the quality of air can be monitored are Delhi, Agra, Kanpur,
Lucknow, Varanasi, Faridabad, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Bangalore and Ahmedabad.
·
Later
the index will be extended to 22 State capitals and 44 other cities with a
population exceeding one million
Operation Olivia
·
With
a view to preventing further mortalities of Olive Ridley turtles, the Coast
Guard has launched ‘Operation Olivia’ to enforce the provisions of the Marine
Fishing Regulatory Act.
·
The
operation area covers the coastal area from Porto Novo (Parangipettai) in
Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu to Nizampatnam in Guntur district of Andhra
Pradesh.
Classify industries
on 3-coloured basis
·
The
Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change proposed a
colour-coded system to re-classify industries based on pollution potential.
·
As
per the proposal, the industries will be re-classified under three-coloured
scheme, viz., Red, Orange and Green
·
Red
Category: Industrial sectors with a score of 60 and more
·
Orange
Category: Industrial sectors with a score between 30 to 59
·
Green
Category: Industrial sectors with a score between 15 to 29
·
Industrial
sectors scoring below 15 will be considered as white as they are environment
friendly.
48th Tiger Reserve of
India
·
The
National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) accorded final approval to Rajaji
National Park, Uttarakhand as India's 48th Tiger Reserve.
·
With
this notification, Uttarakhand got its second tiger reserve after the Corbett
Tiger Reserve.
·
Uttarakhand
is a state that has the second highest tiger population in the country after
Karnataka.
