Tiger Reserves in India
· 48 tiger reserves in India, governed by Project Tiger which is administered by the National Tiger Conservation Authority.
· India is home to 70 percent of Tigers in the world.

· The largest Tiger Reserve is the 3,568 km2 (1,378 sq mi) Nagarjunsagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
· Bor Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra is the latest tiger reserve (47th) in India
· The Mudumalai – Bandipur – Nagarahole - Wayanad complex holds the world’s single largest tiger population currently estimated at over 570 tigers (in 11,000 sq.km of habitat)

In addition to existing tiger reserves, in-principle approval has been accorded by the National Tiger Conservation Authority for creation of two new tiger reserves, and the sites are:
Ø Ratapani (Madhya Pradesh)
Ø Sunabeda (Odisha)
Final approval has been accorded to the following, for declaring as a tiger reserve
v Kudremukh (Karnataka)
The State Governments have been advised to send proposals for declaring the following areas as tiger reserves:
ü Suhelwa Wildlife Sanctuary (Uttar Pradesh)
ü Guru Ghasidas National Park (Chhattisgarh)
ü Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary (Goa)
ü Srivilliputhur Grizzled Giant Squirrel / Megamalai Wildlife Sanctuaries / Varushanadu Valley (Tamil Nadu) and
ü Dibang Wildlife Sanctuary (Arunachal Pradesh)
