women climbed all highest peaks of seven continents
In
a first, four members of an all-women Nepalese expedition team have scaled the
highest peaks in all the seven continents. The team began their quest in 2008
by climbing Mount Everest and finally scaled Mt. Vinson in Antarctica on December
23, 2014. They became the first
all-women expedition group to climb the peaks in the seven continents.
Of
the seven-member group, Chunu Shrestha, Nimdoma Sherpa, Pema Diki Sherpa and
Maya Gurung succeeded in climbing all the seven peaks. They reached the summit
of Mt. Vinson Massif in Antarctica on December 23 last year, achieving this
unique feat.
They
have scaled Everest in Asia, Kosciuszko in Australia, Elbrus in Europe,
Kilimanjaro in Africa, Aconcagua in South America, Denali or McKinley in North
America and Vinson in Antarctica.
Indian Mountaineers:
Arunima "Sonu" Sinha
(Uttar Pradesh) is the first female amputee to climb Mount Everest. She is also the first Indian amputee to climb
Mount Everest. She has written a book "Born again on the mountain",
launched by Prime minister of India Narendra Modi in December 2014.
Malavath Porrna (Andhra Pradesh)
is the youngest person [13 years] to climb Mount Everest in 2014. Previous
record was by an American Boy (13 years, 11 months) in 2010.
Tashi and Nungshi Malik - World's
first female twins to scale together Everest (19 May 2013), first twins to
scale together 'seven summits', first twins to Ski together to South Pole
Premlata Agarwal - first Indian
woman to complete all Seven Summits
Arjun Vajpai was the third
youngest Indian to climb Mount Everest. He achieved this feat at an age of 16 years,
11 months and 18 days. On 20 May 2011, he became the youngest climber ever to
summit Lhotse, aged 17 years, 11 months and 16 days. Arjun also became the
youngest to summit Mt. Manaslu on October 4, 2011.
