About the Winners:
Prof
Malur Ramaswamy Srinivasan: Nuclear scientist; got Padma Bhushan
in 1990 and Padma Shri in 1984; a team member of the legendary Homi Bhaba,
Srinivasan was involved in India’s first nuclear research reactor Apsara in
mid-1950s; has played a key role in the development of indigenous Pressurized
Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR); later became chairman of Atomic Energy Commission
and rose to be secretary of department of atomic energy; founder-chairman of
Nuclear Power Corporation of India, in 1987; responsible for a total of 18
nuclear power units in the country.

Gopalswami: a 1966 IAS officer of Gujarat cadre, was
chief election commissioner from June 2006 to April 2009; he was former union
home secretary as well, and had held posts of secretary in department of
culture, and secretary-general in National Human Rights Commission; recently
appointed as chairman of Kalashetra Foundation.
Sudha
Raghunathan: one the best recognizable faces in Carnatic
music circles, and among the most sought-after vocalist during music seasons; a
distinguished disciple of M L Vasanthakumari, Sudha Raghunathan got her Padma
Shri award in 2004.
Kanyakumari
Avasarala: a top-notch violinist; she is also the
disciple of M L Vasanthakumari; she is a recipient of TN Govt’s Kalaimamani
award as well; she also won the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award

V. Rajaraman: Retired IAS officer; has more than 37 years
of experience in Indian Administrative Service; served as Chairman of Tamilnadu
Industrial Investment Corporation; served as a Director of Small Industries
Development Bank of India; served as Director in the Ministry of Chemicals and
Fertilizers, Government of India.

Vasudevan: Retired IAS officer; was a founder director
of Small Industries Development Bank of India; had a distinguished career with
the Government of India during which he held several senior positions including
Secretary, Ministry of Power, Secretary, Ministry of Steel, Permanent
Secretary, Small Scale Industries, Rural Industries and Technology Development,
Special Secretary to the Prime Minister and Financial Advisor, Ministry of
Petroleum; served as Non-Executive Chairman of Hindustan Oil Exploration Co.
Ltd from February 2005 to October 2014; passed away on Oct 04, 2014.
