ASIA’S LARGEST SOLAR POWER PLANT

Through video conferencing, Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the 750 MW Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Plant (on July 10, 2020) in Madhya Pradesh. To date, the 750 MW Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Project is the largest single-site solar power projects in India and also in Asia. The Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Project is located in Gurh Tehsil of Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district. It is spread over 1,590 acres of land. The entire cost of the Solar Power Project is worth around Rs 4000 crore. International Finance Corporation (IFC) is the transaction adviser for the Solar Power Project.

MISSION VRIKSHAROPAN 2020

Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Yogi Adityanath has inaugurated a programme under which the State Government of Uttar Pradesh has set a target to plant more than 25 crore sapling across the state. The name of the mega plantation programme is ‘Mission Vriksharopan-2020’. Chief Minister planted 3 saplings at the Kukrail Reserve Forest’s Harishankari Vatika in Lucknow to inaugurate the Mission Vriksharopan-2020.

IARI NAMED AFTER SHYAMA PRASAD MUKHERJEE

New administrative and academic building of IARI (Indian Agricultural Research Institute) Jharkhand named after Late Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on his birth anniversary. Union Agriculture Ministry said that Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee dedicated his life to the unity and integrity of the country, gave the call for one nation-one law and sacrificed his life in Kashmir.

NEKAR SAMMAN YOJANE

Chief Minister of Karnataka, Mr. B.S. Yediyurappa has launched a scheme for the weaver’s community in the state of Karnataka. The name of the scheme is ‘Nekar Samman Yojane’, which means Weaver Samman Yojana. There are 54,789 handloom weavers registered in the state of Karnataka. For becoming a beneficiary of the scheme, silk, cotton, woolen and other handloom weavers in the state of Karnataka have to register themselves at the Seva Sindhu portal (an initiative to deliver the various schemes and services of the Karnataka State Government at the doorstep of the citizens).

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has set up an 11-member expert committee headed by Dr K S Reddy, president of Public Health Foundation of India to study impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) on human rights of individuals, particularly marginalised and vulnerable sections of the society, together with migrant labourers & will also study the future response of the government.

HIMACHAL PRADESH: FIRST STATE IN INDIA TO HAVE LPG CONNECTION IN ALL HOUSEHOLDS

All households in the state of Himachal Pradesh have access to LPG Gas Connection, making Himachal Pradesh the first state in the country to achieve the goal set by Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi during the launch of Ujjwala Yojana for providing a cooking gas connection to every household in the country. This was announced on July 06, 2020 by the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Mr. Jai Ram Thakur. Apart from the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, the scheme of the Himachal Pradesh State Government ‘Himachal Grihini Suvidha Yojana’ has also played an important role for achieving the 100 percent household cooking gas connection in the state.

INDIA – AFGHANISTAN

India and Afghanistan signed 5 MoUs under the High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP) programme. The 5 MoUs consisted of Tripartite Agreements that were signed between the Government of India, Afghanistan’s Ministry of Economy and Afghanistan’s Ministry of Economy and Afghanistan’s Ministry of Education. HICDP programme was signed in 2005 under which the Government of India has committed to provide financial support to more than 550 HICDP across Afghanistan.

FACEBOOK & CBSE

Union HRD Ministry has said that, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has entered into a partnership with Facebook Inc. The partnership between CBSE and Facebook has two categories. First, this category will be for the introduction of Augmented Realty in the CBSE curriculum in India. The second category is, a new  curriculum has been introduced by CBSE ("Facebook for education")

INTZAAR AAP KA CAMPAIGN

In order to attract tourists in the state, the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board has started a social media campaign. The name of the campaign is ‘Intzaar Aap Ka’ meaning ‘Waiting for You’.

DEHING PATKAI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

After months of Controversy, the Assam State Government has decided for the up-gradation of the status of the Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary to National Park. Under the Project Elephant of the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests, in 1992 Dehing Patkai was declared as an Elephant Reserve. Later on June 13, 2004, Dehing Patkai was declared as a Wildlife Sanctuary.

SDG REPORT 2020

In accordance with the “Sustainable Development Report 2020- The Sustainable Development Goals and Covid-19”, comprising of SDG index 2020, there will be severe negative impacts on most of the United Nations (UN)-mandated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) due to COVID-19 pandemic. India, which has ranked at 117th position with a score of 61.92 is also facing major challenges in 10 of the 17 SDGs including zero hunger, good health, gender inequality among others.  The index has been topped by Sweden with a score of 84.72. The 2020 report has reviewed the performance of 193 UN Member States out of which 166 were ranked under SDG index 2020. Sweden was followed by Denmark (84.56) and Finland (83.77).

OFEK 16

The Israel Ministry of Defense (IMoD), and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), have successfully launched a new spy satellite “Ofek 16” into orbit by using a locally-developed Shavit rocket from a launchpad at Palmachim airbase in central Israel.

The 23 year-old G. Akash from Chennai, Tamil Nadu become the country’s 66th Grandmaster with rating of 2495. The title was confirmed at the recent meeting of International Chess Federation (FIDE) Council. He has won the national title in 2012. He is coached by K. Visweswaran, a former National Champion. He won the national title in 2012. M Pranesh, from Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Ameya Audi, from Goa earned International Master Titles.
